ASHTON LEAL
Certified Personal Trainer
How long have you been in fitness and can you describe your journey?
I have been involved in the health and fitness industry for over 9 years. As a young teenager, I had a personal trainer who inspired me to pursue my Masters in Exercise and Nutrition Science. Throughout my studies I fell in love with inspiring others to take care of themselves physically and mentally. I have trained a wide range of clients, from corporate executives and college professors to young teens and older adults; all seeking to make positive changes in their lifestyles. I have mastered the ability to help clients reach the best versions of themselves through applying the science of exercise and fitness learned through education, while also applying the human emotional and mental side of fitness learned through my experience in training clients.
What made you want to get into fitness coaching?
As a fitness coach, I am driven by the opportunity to make a tangible difference in my client’s lives. I find immense satisfaction in witnessing others succeed through my tailored approach to training. I take the time to deeply understand each client’s unique goals, abilities and needs in order to craft customized programs that set them up for success. Seeing the transformations and sense of accomplishment my clients experience is incredibly fulfilling and motivates me immensely. I realized early on that my encouragement and accountability empowered my clients to exceed their own expectations – making this the perfect career path for me.
What advice would you give for a new client exploring personal training to get started in their fitness journey or to enhance their current routine?
For clients new to personal training or looking to enhance their current routine, my best advice would be to have an open mindset and a commitment to consistency. As a coach, I’m big on honesty, as this allows me to thoroughly evaluate your goals, limitations and past history. These insights are crucial in enabling me to craft a customized program that will lead you to success! I’m also a stickler for consistency in your workout routine. Making time and prioritizing your health and fitness, constantly over a period of time, is how you get and achieve the best fitness results.
What is a success highlight in your fitness career that you’re particularly proud of?
One of my success highlights that I’m most proud of is helping a client lose 20 pounds while simultaneously addressing her lower back pain and posture issues. I created a customized program that focused on her strength, mobility and postural correction; we were able to achieve a remarkable physical transformation that significantly improve her overall wellbeing. In addition, to this impactful one-on-one experience, I’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients; from those preparing for specialized athletic pursuits such as an aerial skills performer, to young athletes and families looking to adopt healthier lifestyles. I pride myself on being very versatile on the age and goals of clients that I can successfully train.
What are some things you like to do in your spare time?
When I’m not in the gym, you can find me chasing sunny boat days and casting my fishing line into the waters of Tampa Bay. As an avid outdoorsman, I relish the opportunity to disconnect and immerse myself in nature. Back on land, I indulge my passion for cars through long drives and spending time learning about the latest innovations. Of course, I also enjoy a good workout and a strong cup of coffee to fuel my busy lifestyle. Whether it’s pushing my physical limits or exploring my mechanical interests, I’m always seeking new ways to both challenge and enrich myself.
What are some special skill sets and things that your clients should know about you?
As your fitness coach, I bring a diverse skill set tailored to empowering clients of all ages and backgrounds. I enjoy working with young teens, fostering confidence and self-esteem through exercise education and a focus on understanding the ‘why’ behind healthy habits. I also have a passion for training couples as well as older adults, helping them improve stability, mobility, and overall well-being. With my extensive experience and unwavering commitment to client success, I create tailored programs that address each individual’s unique goals and needs. I’m currently enrolled in the Masters program for Exercise Science and Nutrition at University of Tampa. Through my educational experience I’ve learned a great deal about the science of the body, nutrition and fitness. This education allows me to handle a very wide variety of fitness levels and needs and has prepared me to apply both science and know-how to every client I train.
