ALLISON HOYOS
Certified Personal Trainer
How long have you been in fitness and can you describe your journey?
I have been in fitness my whole life. As a young Lacrosse athlete, I understood very
early in life what it meant to take care of yourself on and off-season. When I started my Bachelors in Pre Physical Therapy Sciences, I started to transition from an endurance athlete into a strength athlete, which brought me into strength training and bodybuilding. Since then, regimented training and nutrition is a huge part of my life while still maintaining balance in all other aspects.
What made you want to get into fitness coaching?
I can understand how starting a fitness journey can be challenging, as there are many places to start. I want to help solidify plans and programs that suit the needs of every individual and help them build healthy relationships with health and fitness!
What is a success or highlight in your fitness career that you’re particularly proud of?
One of my biggest highlights is finishing with Honors in my Graduate class for my
Master’s of Science in Exercise and Nutrition Science. I made great relationships with my colleagues and professors who have helped me with countless opportunities in the field that I’ll be forever grateful for. My schooling taught me so much about the science of weight loss, muscle gain, working out, and nutrition. I’m happy to bring this knowledge to help my clients be the fittest version of themselves.
What are some things that you like to do in your spare time?
Aside from training, I love to read and create social media content specifically for
wellness and fitness. It can be easy to find misleading information online so I want to provide engaging and entertaining content to educate and just have fun with it! I live in South Tampa so you can find me rollerblading on Bayshore or out on the riverwalk and staying active!
If you had one piece of advice for a client who is transitioning to a new trainer and possibly deviating from their comfort levels, what would it be?
There is no set destination when it comes to starting a fitness program. It is the practice of implementing weekly movement into your everyday lives to ensure optimal mobility, strength, and longevity of our bodies and capabilities. Consistency is key. I always tell clients the first step is just simply to start. It’s natural to feel uneasy, nervous, or dread working out initially, but once you’re going, we will establish a routine and before you know it, it will become fun and you will look forward to your sessions.
What are some of your special skill sets and things that your clients should
know about you?
I am a fluent Spanish speaker and I have experience working in almost every discipline of Physical Therapy (outpatient, inpatient, acute care, cardiac rehab, orthopedic units, stroke gyms, etc.).
